This lovely well developed forest has been under refinement for six years. I recently acquired its forever home, a large custom rectangle tray in a rich chocolate glaze by master potter Andy Hampton. The trees have grown together in the years since their purchase from Keeping It Green Nursery, a rare plant nursery situated in Northwest Washington. A dramatic collection of rare conifers–this one will simply keep getting better over time! The Monterrey Cypress has finely shaped yellowish foliage, while the Modoc is a dusky blue-green contrast. Rarely seen in gardens, never as bonsai in my experience. An addition of a seventh Monterrey cypress and three more trees completes this arrangement. The new trees have been added to this arrangement now, completing the design with a grove of Cupressus lawsonii, our Northwest native cypress. Must be seen to be appreciated— there is nothing like it in bonsai nurseries I have seen.
