There are whole seasons where keeping a bonsai garden is simply work with little reward. The uncertainties of weather, stresses on the trees that were unforeseen, waiting for maturity and full development— many times we are tempted to say it’s not worth the time and attention to our craft— then comes a day like this. We walk out to the garden and a certain tree is in the fullness of its glory— waiting to be seen and celebrated with a song or gasp of delight, maybe a photograph to record the moment…. Here’s to fall, the most fickle season, and the most glorious for a deciduous collection. Thank you to my readers, students, clients. Praise be…
